Athlete of the Year – Justin Romsburg
- With many top fives in both Mountain Bike Racing and Cyclocross racing Justin proved to be the most consistent ESNW athlete throughout 2011. We are proud to announce that Justin will be graduating up in categories in both mountain bike racing and cyclocross in 2012 which is pretty amazing considering he went from Cat 4 to Cat 3 to Cat 1/2 in only 3 years! Justin, we thank you so much for your support and flying the flag throughout the year.
Most Inspirational Athlete – Jennifer Smith – Jennifer’s body has been through more than anyone we know yet she continues to push through. After more than 13 different surgeries and a congenital heart defect Jennifer was still able to enter and finish 2 Half-Ironmans in 2011. What many would consider as excuses to fail, Jennifer uses as excuses to persevere. In fact Jennifer has even signed up for Ironman Canada in 2012! We are so excited for her and are even more excited to cheer her on this coming year. Thank you Jennifer for all your support and motivation. You are truly an inspiration!
Coach of the Year – Joel “JD” Dodds – JD volununtarily comes out every Monday and Wednesday evenings to all the Masters swim practices and really works hard to make everyone a better swimmer. JD is amazing because he treats every swimmer as if they are elite and works amazingly hard at getting everyone to be better. We are so thankful for JD and all the work he puts in to help all athletes who come to his masters practices get better!
Picture of the Year – Jennifer Harrington after her horrific crash at the Lake Steven’s Triathlon. Jennifer was lead overall female when she crashed hard on her bike with another competitor needing stitches and a quick trip to the emergency room. Jennifer did get up and finish the race before the trip to the hospital.
