When I started planning to do the Vineman Ironman I had no idea where to begin. My training for past races had been minimal and I had gotten by mostly on my athletic ability and not my training and preparation. I knew that for an Ironman I would need motivation and planning to get prepared. This is where Porter comes in. He helped me plan out my workouts down to the smallest detail. Every workout had a specific purpose in preparing me physically as well as mentally. Any questions I had were answered in a timely manner and Porter was very knowledgable in every aspect of triathlon. He went above and beyond my expectations of a coach. He would check up on me to see how I was doing without me having to ask him for help. He is a great coach for any skill level.

I signed up for the Wisconsin Ironman to challenge myself and to see how far I could push my limits. At the time of registration in September, I did not know how to swim. I did not own a bike, and had never biked farther than 10 miles, but I had run marathons. Porter helped correct my swimming techniques and breathing, as shown in my two different half Ironman times. Within a month I decreased my swim time by 18 minutes. I also achieved improvements in my biking (.7mph) and running (30 seconds per mile) times. Two months later, it was time for the big day. Porter helped prepare me and reassured me that I was going to do well. And he was correct. My times for swimming and biking were the best of my life. My swim was 7 minutes faster than my previous best, and I biked 1.1 mph faster than I had ever done before. I beat my goal time of finishing by three hours and I have Porter to thank!

I hired Porter Bratten to be my coach for the 2011 Vineman Ironman event in Windsor California. My experience was amazing. I had a limited time to train and Porter tailored my training to fit my tight schedule he also gave me tons of other Ironman advice to get me ready to hit a PR – and I did. I broke 12 hours at 11:56. Porter exceeded my expecations in every way. I know he has the knowledge and structure in place to help anybody achieve their most ambitious endurance athlete goals. Thanks Porter for the awesome training and a super experience.
